Episode Transcript for Next Best Thing to Robert Redford Dessert

I can hardly believe it Carrie today is our last episode of season two oh my gosh well we better make this one a good one a does that mean we can't make any beef brownies hot buttered tomato juice no oh herb glaze sandwiches never again every party needs a pooper that's why we invited you party pooper party pooper yeah

[Music] welcome to Mom's Wooden Spoon get your apron on and your fanny flicker ready as we cook up some Nostalgia ooh [Music] yummy happy National vanilla pudding day Carrie well thank you Kristen I was wondering when we got to celebrate vanilla pudding in all its finest Glory I know I've been waiting all year for this all year yeah I mean they should have more pudding days or something they do what yeah we'll talk about that in a bit oh okay first of all let's talk about today's recipe okay it comes from the September 21st 1981 Mary's memo does it have vanilla pudding in it no um then I'm kidding of course it does the name is also very interesting okay of this it is called next best thing to Robert Redford dessert hey that sounds good yeah I like a good Ginger I always think of him as being blonde but he probably was like a strawberry blonde that's what I recall strawberry blonde yeah so I wonder how many young people or how young you have to be to not know who Robert Redford is like would Millennials know who he is that's a great question probably not I'm like I'm trying to think of when he stopped you know so for a lot of these actors they make the switch to directors right and then you don't know who they are yeah so he totally did make that switch he did yeah and so I would love to say things that he directed I think he did Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt yes yeah I think he directed that and I always think of him is synonymous with Paul Newman okay because I think he said Paul Newman or Robert Redford said that their absolute favorite movie that they ever did was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid the movie they did together I thought maybe it was because they both had salad dressings well I mean Newman has his salad dressings and Robert Redford has his dessert well I mean it all turns out okay I'm assuming that this recipe is because he was a dream boat he's creamy he's dreamy he's luscious right sure and that's what this dessert is creamy dreamy and Luscious right right so who would you pick as a male actor that would embody all those wonderful adjectives so my first thought and probably triggered by the Legends of the Fall comment was Brad Pitt but I think he's old and then there's the whole you know ugly battle with Angelina Jolene made him look worse and the public eye blah blah blah so wait a minute Legends of the Fall Brad Pitt oh yes creamy dreamy hubba hubba long hair yeah that's all good but um Meet Joe Black Brad Pitt oh oh handsome yes but current you know have a physical argument with your wife not dreamy at all so that leads me to think that my first thought would be Chris Pine oh you do love some Chris Pine I have a magic magic I don't know why I said that I have a huge crush on Chris Pine but I think that's just me and you know who his dad is right oh yeah yeah yeah Mr Pine who played the captain on Chips that's right Mr Pine Mr Pine but I think my final answer is Chris Hemsworth oh Thor he is so cute he is he's just hot he is dreamy he's dreamy creamy luscious right yeah he is all of those things and I think he appeals to a wide variety of ages absolutely and you know what's funny I chose his brother uh like Liam Loki Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston is a different kind of adorable he is a different kind of adorable he does that cute little dance he loves to dance he's so British I love it oh my gosh since he's British would this be yet another podcast in which we could try to speak British or you do British accent in honor of Tom Hiddleston and I'll do Australian

accent this is bad Chris Hemsworth oh my gosh we're gonna throw the shrimp on the barbie that was quite it pip pip cheerio that's all I know how to say which Tom Hiddleston says all the time everytime we see him pip pip cheerio I'm Tom Hiddleston

and now he's not on the list anymore if he talks like that

oh my goodness well okay so this dessert we're now going to call it next best thing to Chris Hemsworth and his brother Loki okay now it's funny I looked up this recipe online and it had a million different varieties first of all and a million different names really yes so here are a few of them that I thought was actually very fun okay it was called chocolate Lush it doesn't seem all that chocolatey no because it has chocolate pudding and vanilla pudding and in this one we mix it together but in other ones that I saw they do the vanilla and chocolate pudding separate layers yeah but still that doesn't seem like chocolate Lush no I guess you could do all chocolate pudding just an extra thick layer of chocolate pudding because they had varieties you can use butterscotch pudding in some of them you know so they did have a variety but my favorite one was in Arkansas they call it possum pie shut up I mean is it better than Robert Redford or a Possum ooh yum yum I thought that was great that's awesome so maybe we should just call it Possum pie yeah okay so as I'm reading this Mary's memo before we get into all the ingredients it actually says at the top that she has two new desserts to try oh yes she does yes yes and one of them she just calls the cake I saw that yeah Uber descriptive right and so I looked up the ingredients that are in the cake uhhuh you wanna to know what the uh real title is did she not say I thought she said some people call it something they do she said call it the cake yeah it says that there is a different name but we're going to call it the cake in northwest Ohio okay can you guess what the original title of it is Mary's a prude I'll just give you this oh so Mary was offended yes ah so instead of calling it this she just called it the cake no I mean I don't have any idea it's called Better Than Sex cake oh I've totally heard of that cake oh yeah it's super chocolatey right I don't think so this one says it has vanilla pudding and crushed pineapple and whipped cream in it and coconut I don't know that that would be better than sex but if it was chocolatey maybe but actually sometimes they call this next best thing to Robert Redford or Tom Hiddleston or Chris Hemsworth dessert they sometimes call It Better Than Sex dessert oh so she just put two better than sex things right on there and didn't title either one appropriate oh Mary Mary she was having a fun week she was now I I originally thought this was a completely no- bake dessert because it has pudding and cool with but actually we make what's kind of like a pecan Sandies crust yes yep so it um is butter and flour and then really finely chopped up pecans or I think she says nuts she just says nuts so any kind and Kristen called me and says hey do you have any nuts and I'm like I have peanuts and cashews and I've got to be honest neither of those sound tasty as a crust no so I went out and got some pecans because those are my favorite that sounds amazing yes so we're going to mix together flour half cup of butter and these one cup of finely chopped up pecans I'm sure shove it in the bottom of the pan and bake it yep yep then we're going to bake it that makes the kind of like a shortbread crust pecan shorty pecan shortbread crust and then what what can I say that again I wonder what kind of crust it makes maybe a pecan shortbread or huh and what if you used a different kind of nut then what would that taste like it would probably taste nutty it would not be pecan shortbread that's for sure that's why I got pecans could I say pecan again oh my gosh is this like the olive recipe where you said olive olive continuously olives okay so we're gonna make this pean short bread crust I am so over this stupid crust let's just lay the crap in the pan okay we're doing that we bake it for about 15 minutes and then we're going to make a cream cheese layer yep cream cheese sugar and then half of our tub of Cool Whip and then we'll put that on and then we have to actually mix these two giant boxes of chocolate and vanilla pudding together and mix it with milk we put the pudding layer on and then we top it all with whipped cream yeah I find that to be the oddest part I thought so too I looked this recipe up online because I thought did she make a typo we're going to mix vanilla and chocolate together it's just like watering down the chocolate right that just seems odd to me yeah but here we are yeah we're going to try it anyway yeah we usually try not to deviate for Mary's recipe right but we are going to we are and I'm excited are you excited oh in the best of ways yay so the topping is supposed to be grated chocolate bar you take your grater you grate a like a semi sweet chocolate bar that's a whole lot of work I told that's a whole lot of work I would have gone for the mini chocolate chips yeah yeah I thought about mini chocolate chips I thought oh that might be good but then somebody online recommended that you get the Heath toffee bits mhm and that's what I got oh yes oh doesn't that sound so good yes I'm super excited all right well let's get started on this crust I'm going to do it in my kitchen aid mixer I think that'll work well so it's going to be these two sticks of butter and the cup of flour and the nuts we're going to pause for just a second guys because I'm going to blend up this crust what type of crust is it Carrie gosh I can't remember hmm Kristen do you do you know I'm thinking it has something to do with shortbread and nuts I don't know we'll think about that okay we'll be back [Music] okay so we are back I screwed up a big time so she gets all the ingredients into the mixer yeah she Blends and she looks at me and goes Carrie this is not making a dough and it's like pure liquid really I'm like what do you mean like a batter she says it just doesn't look right how how many sticks is a half a cup of butter and I said one and she said what and then she tried to blame it on her poor husband I asked him this morning I said am I right because I tried to read the stick this morning and the writing was so tiny I didn't want to go get my reading glasses and I so she used a full extra stick of butter so now our crust is two stick s of butter one cups of cup of nuts two cups of flour and a random amount of almond flour because we didn't have any other nuts I offered peanuts that I found in the pantry Kristen's like uh no so I don't think that would be good I'm not sure what this is going to look like the crust may just be a whole lot of butter floating on the bottom of the pan I think it's going to be perfect I make some cookies since uh you know I like to eat gluten-free a lot of times I should be eating gluten-free all the time I make cookies with just butter almond flour a little almond extract vanilla and some sugar right and I don't really even have to measure it I'm not good at measuring so that's a good thing so we have just taken half of this weird concoction that we have created without sugar um so it's not going to taste like the cookies and Kristen's super excited to use the other half I think I'm going to make cookies I'm going to add sugar and some extracts do you need extra I think I might need a little more I want to make it even and I don't want to make it too thin I just don't even know how much you know because we kind of screwed up there yeah I mean we I screwed up yeah we I was totally involved in that process so anyway so if we forget which we likely will yes yes of Kristen's major issue Kristen's major issue I got a lot of them this is the most major it's really not the most major of her issues You're so mean

anyway moving on from that I think we should move on Carrie if we forget and we we we likely will and we take a bite and we're like this is really good but this crust is this crust is as tough as old boots this crust is so hard we can't cut through it the flavor is so off and uh so feel free to write in and be like yeah dummies it's because it was Kristen's major issue and uh yeah because odds are good we won't remember but so Kristen is Pat Pat patting the crust into the bottom of the pan it looks lovely it does not look super nutty no that's cuz the almond flour is so light right right I think it's going to be absolutely delicious and it won't be pecan sandies it'll be pecan almond sandies palmond palmond sandie crust I like that she's working so hard and then she's so excited and then we can just use the leftovers and we're going to make delicious delicious cookies we are I mean the only difference is that we need to add sugar oh and almond flavoring oh and vanilla oh and I don't measure any of it they'll be great you know what yeah you suck all right I'm gonna put this in the oven for 15 minutes maybe by then Carrie will shut her pie hole most likely Carrie will screw something up yay and we'll move on to mocking her yes that's my favorite we usually mock you Carrie it is it's true it's a national Pastime National pudding day and National mocking Carrie day ooh speaking of national pudding days do you know that there are multiple multiple International pudding days oh International oh yeah all of these pudding days I looked them up and they are uh the same pudding days in Britain Canada uh in America it may have been more but I was like on the list was sticky toffee pudding I'm like wait this isn't merican you know no yeah we're dismissing this out of hand this is ridiculous Yorkshire pudding was on there Christmas pudding Plum Pudding I'm like what the heck those don't count as puds herb and cheese muffins herb and cheese puffs they're pud no that's not puds we made the onion and cheese pud onion cheese pud well if Yorkshire pudding is a pudding herb and cheese that's right cuz basically those herb and cheese puffs that we made were little Yorkshire puddings we just didn't cook them in beef fat they were tasty and I still think about them okay so back to our pud yes okay so get out your calendars folks we've talked about getting your calendars out before I'm really serious because pudding is delicious and you need to celebrate these days well and you can do it quickly yeah you really can snip snap snip okay so here we go vanilla pudding day of course is May 22nd and I I did these chronologically Carrie so oh this is going to be so easy for your calendar okay flip the calendar to June guys chocolate pudding day June 26th just a month later yeah flipparoonio to July tapioca pudding I love tapioca pudding I know that it is something that people kind of love or hate yes I fall squarely in the love me too rice pudding day my friend Cheryl's favorite pudding her grandma made it for her and she loves it nice and it is the very next month after July August 9th wow yep and then the next month butterscotch pudding day that is my all-time favorite that is good that's September 19th very nice do you remember the bootleg rice pudding we made when we were kids uh I think we've talked about this how did we do it we mixed in I still make it to this day so you just put the rice in a bowl pour milk on it put sugar and cinnamon on the top yes now I have elevated mine what cuz it's always old rice like you made something you have leftovers I heat my rice up in the micro and then do the butter and milk and sugar and nutmeg  oh Carrie I know oh my gosh I make real live rice pudding on the stove and I thicken it and I have like half and half and stuff like that but it's funny we had my son's best friend over and I said we have rice pudding it's still warm and the look on his face was aghast he's like no no thank you he's like I don't like warm pudding I'm like he probably didn't realize I mean in a world of instant pudding right and prepackaged pudding he probably oh my gosh it might not have crossed his mind no that it would ever be warm why did you heat up pudding that's disgusting right why did you heat up pudding I'm like it's it's freshly made the kid eats everything he refused to even taste this warm rice pudding and we're all going um um oh this stuff is good he's like no that's hilarious isn't that wild that's awesome well speaking of puddings and making puddings let me share this little tidbit because it segues so beautifully okay so obviously you can cook pudding on the stove yeah and for years and years people did that and I don't know Kristen if you're like me yes but I really remember when instant pudding kind of came into the home yeah I do too it was a life changer for Mom it was a big deal because you know I I've said on previous podcasts how I would stand at the stove and stir it with the figure eight to make sure the pudding didn't burn on the bottom of the pot I felt like I stood there forever yeah and I remember Mom loving instant pudding oh yeah and it didn't matter if that stuff tasted as good or not we were never going back to that stove stuff never in a million years and anybody who did was just crazy oh yeah yeah so here is the super fascinating part instant pudding was first marketed in 1918 wow by a brand called mighty fine mighty fine my m y t oh fine oh my t fine mighty fine 1918 that crap's not new not new at all no that's old now it is not totally instant the way we think of it as of today that was the jello brand which introduced their instant pudding in 1936 that's so weird because it just seemed like it was so new to us maybe it's cuz Mom didn't want to try it she loved her cooked pudding and she could just have you know child labor standing at the stove maybe we did cooked pudding because we were under her feet and she's like stand at the stove for two hours and stir this in a figure eight I don't know and instant pudding was such a big deal that in the 60s there was a product called Shake A pudd'n shake a pud not pudding pudd'n pudd'n shake a pudd'n shake a pudd'n and so what it was is it came in a a box of a the package of four and you had four cups four little packages of pudd'n yeah and lids you would put the package of pudd'n in the cup add water to the line that it said and then you hand it to your kid and they had to vigorously shake their cup for 30 seconds how fun and it created room temperature my son's best friend would hate that room temperature pudding did every kid sing shake shake shake shake shake shake shake your pudd'n I don't think any kid sang that but I found an ad a 60s ad for shake a pudd'n shake a pudd'n and at the very end their tagline was what a crazy way to make a snack crazy so you'd watch this whole I saw two different ads for Shake a pudd'n and then at the end what a crazy way to make a snack in a little kid's voice there are all kinds of people that remembered doing shake a pudd'n They begged and begged and begged their parents to get it and then they got it and shaking vigorously for 30 seconds that's a lot of work it really is like after five seconds they're like this is not near as fun as I thought it would be my arms feel like burning why did I beg for this I don't ever want this again mom just put me at stove and let me make figure eights and so then they were joking about how then of course their parents kept the shake a pudd'n cups right as extra cups and would in the back and so every time they opened the cabinet to look at the cups there were the shake a pudd'n Cups Where They begged and begged and instantly hated mocking their bad decision making oh my gosh for the next 10 years I thought it was hilarious that is hilarious we never had it probably it was too expensive I'm assuming don't think it made it into the 70s it was in the 60s um but I just found that fascinating because I really remember instant putting coming into the home yeah it was apparently it was instant pudding coming into our home I guess yeah I guess I find that fascinating all right well the timer's going off in just about 40 seconds here and then we're going to let that cool and we're going to make this cream cheese spread I hope I don't screw this up here okay so Carrie the crust is out of the oven it looks very very pale very pale does it say to cook it till it's golden brown so it's just pale I feel like we should bake it for five more minutes go touch it it feels very soft I think it should or this sucker is going to be hard as a rock oh it's very floury it's not even golden on the edge it is not golden on the edges I don't know with all that flour that it will become golden we'll find out I just don't want to make it hard as a rock me neither I told all my colleagues that I would bring this in no I don't think I'm gonna be doing it maybe the extra cookies that I made if I don't screw those up too okay so while that bakes for five more minutes I'm going to open this cool whip lid you ready I loved my supporting sound I'll bring in the cookies but should you all right so now we're supposed to put half the Cool Whip in here yes and that one really got Kristen the recipe says one package of Cool Whip divided and she's like divided what does that mean part of us need to root for Georgia and part of us need to root for Georgia Tech what is this Insanity I don't even like football she was very distressed I did not say any of that she said all of those words came right out and then she said and I'm putting an extra butter into this crust it'll be better that way that's what she said she said it was an accident to you guys but I knew it was coming she just won't stop so we're going to pause it here I'm going to go mix up the sugar the 8 oz of Philadelphia cream cheese and the half of a container of Cool Whip

[Music]  okay we have the Cool Whip and cream cheese and the sugar all Blended up it's really creamy and soft so it'll spread on really easily yep we got the crust out of the oven it was slightly golden around the Edge but not much and it felt kind of tender so hopefully we won't need like a jackhammer to get to get through it perfect and so now that's chilling yep in the freezer because we're trying to move this along that's right we have Jello brand pudding I know we have the name brand fancy very unusual yes they're going to be crinkly because they're in their boxes and in their packages so we're gonna open those I'm assuming we just dump them in and then add some milks so it says the large instant vanilla instant chocolate three cups of cold milk add milk and carefully spread over well we can do that chocolate first a vanilla all right Carrie so while you make the pudding layer here's your milk is it cold yeah very very cold nice and chilly I wanted to talk to you about something that I think every 80s kid had and it actually came out in 1981 and it was a Trapper Keeper they make those now with the 80s styles I saw that it's so cool so I was looking online at original Trapper Keeper patterns and I was wondering which one you had I don't remember I Googled original 1980s Trapper Keepers okay and I think I figured out which one I had oh plain blue boring lame I know now do you remember this the original ones had a snap to close it no I just remember the rip three years later well two years later I think in 83 they came out with the velcro but I think I may have had the original snap closure did you actually ever close it because I never closed mine oh no you just got well I mean with the velcro you just flop it over and it closes I would usually flop the lid and then flop the top so that they didn't largely because it was humiliating in class that's right with all the noise yeah so that got me thinking of 1980s school supplies okay okay so here's one I'm pretty sure you had this it was a pencil with like troll doll hair on the top and it had googly eyes and you would spin it I'm making the sound like that in your hands and the hair would go all flying out yes and then you would twist the hair oh yeah and then you do it again yeah that was fun yes that was like the original fidget spinner yeah old school yes yes I like it it was and then did you have have one of those little clip on koalas that you could clip on the top of a pen they were plush I just saw one of those in some like remember back in the day kind of thing I saw one of those koalas and I was like I have to remember to talk about that for the podcast oh yeah I totally did and then sometimes you just like clip it to your shirt oh they could clip to anything you want yeah they were great yeah so I loved that so I started to think about you know school supplies and then things we played in the early 80s and all of a sudden this game popped into my head and I wanted to see if you remember it go to the Head of the Class no we've already talked about that stop thief do you remember it yes electronic Cops and Robbers game it was amazing it was so cool it's a board game yep and it came with this electronic scanner type thing and so you would push a button and you would hear you would hear its feet yes and then it had really fun sounds so if it committed a crime you'd get like this the robber could break glass and you'd know it was in a room with glass and then when you think you caught him you would push in the numbers on this scanner and then You' click enter or whatever and then you would either hear the the siren coming or sometimes he would blow a raspberry and go and run away from you you remember that totally remember that we loved that game I loved that game so so fun if you guys played stop thief electronic cops and robbers you'll have to let us know how much you loved it it was just so unusual and so fun it really really was all right so we've got our pudding we've got our cream cheese Kristen's going to get the crust okay so we need to put down I believe the cream cheese is the second layer and then the vanilla and chocolate pudding and you know what this pudding looks very very chocolatey it does oddly enough you can't tell there's vanilla in it at all no all right so I'll start with this and then you can have the spatula to put on the all right the other stuff the pud the pud okay while we're adding the cream cheese Cool Whip layer yeah I looked up Cool Whip oh so did I my initial thought was is you know people talk about it's one step away from plastic yeah yeah like margarine right is it really even edible so good to know it actually has milk in it it did not used to oh yes and but now it does which screwed things up for vegans because it was a vegan product now it's not so that was kind of interesting but it was invented by a dude yes in 1966 he was a food scientist for General Foods cool yep and this guy not only did he create he was good with his chemicals not only did he create Cool Whip but he also created pop rocks oh my gosh Tang whoa and quick set Jello wow what I'm like uh uh uh what's quick jello I think it's when you put the ice cubes in instead of you know you have the two ways to make jello slow and quick my gosh you know what that guy can say that his product went to the moon he could cuz of the Tang yeah well making the pudding ahead of time was not a good idea it's too thick oh it'll be fine all right well I'm going to let you do this part then and so I wanted to bring the Whip and his quick set Jello yeah and bring it into the 80s for you people since that's where our okay yeah um where we are and so I wanted to bring up the poke cake oh the poke cake I liked making that but I don't did I ever use pudding I think it was jello jello because he did the quick set Jello right and so you'd poke it with the handle of a wooden spoon you'd make a 13 by 9 inch pan of your boxed white cake which was 16 ounces back in the pre bootleg days that's right and then you would take like a wooden spoon handle you poke holes in it at various spots and then you would make your Jell-O and pour that over the top of the cake and then because again I'm trying to bring this full circle here yes you'd top it with a frosting of Cool Whip of course you would a poke cake oh yeah poke cakes were good yes and so if you decide that Robert Redford is not for you but you want to live it up 80s style with some cool whip and Jello yes there you go that sounds good this is hard it is too thick it's too thick and she's having troubles Kristen was right we shouldn't have made it this early ah it's all good I mean we've bootlegged the crust why not the topping want me to do it for a while sure all right you can tell us something fascinating oh I have fascinating stuff to talk about you do I do another thing that came out in 1981 it had nothing to do with school supplies or stop Thief oh okay it was a TV show that we loved okay and it was the precursor to people getting slimed on Nickelodeon it was you can't do that on television with Alistair I had that on my notes that we loved Allistair we did I totally did he was so cute I don't remember anything about that show at all really I just remember Alistair when I looked at the pictures of the cast and and some of the skits online I remembered a lot of the characters the actors that were on there there was one grown man on it poor guy I know can you imagine all I know is he did not get paid enough no way and he played all kinds of crazy characters and one of them was this gross Chef who owned a diner and his name was barth and he would make these disgusting barth burgers and I do remember the barth burger do you so basically when I looked it up it said that uh you can't do that on television was a gross out comedy for kids kids of course and so that's where're uh getting slimed came from yes I remember Alistair got slimed all the time oh yeah do you remember sweet sweet Alistair sweet sweet Alistair do you remember what uh they had to say to get slimed no they would have to say I don't know oh interesting yep and then they'd get slimed that's funny it was it was a fun show I just loved it I have a question for you okay since we are making better than Robert Redford dessert yes do you have a favorite Robert Redford movie you know Carrie no I don't know Kristen the only one honestly that I know that he was in was the one with Paul Newman that we talked about before Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid I've never seen it though I haven't either so do you have a favorite one oh I have two immediately came to mind now I did look up to see to make sure you weren't dum dum and well no I wanted wait she just used her grubby finger to wipe it off the spatula I held the finger up in a movement to let her know that that's what was coming next she was real slow on the uptake I was I was um spread it to the edges it's really hard spread it to the edges Carrie it's real hard to do yeah I know it's real hard to do because we shouldn't have made the pudding so early oh my gosh you harass her once and she's all miss know it all okay so my first Robert Redford movie that I thought of not my favorite but I remember going to see it with Mom really uhhuh and I remember her being so excited to go see Robert Redford knowing that I was gonna think he was dreamy oh and it was called Legal Eagles I do remember that it came out in 1986 oh my gosh so she took 13-year-old me to see legal Eagles to see Legal Eagles and knew for sure that I would be totally blown Away by the hotness smitten that was 40 year old I don't know how old he was Robert Redford but he was far too old to be considered hot by a 13-year-old well I'll tell you what I know she thought he was hot because this recipe has an asterisk next to it in her pen heck yeah I did so um anyway legal eagle it has I want to say Deborah Winger oh okay in it and they were both lawyers and they were trying to solve a crime and it was dramatic and tense and but the hands down absolutely most favorite movie with Robert Redford in it of all time anytime it is on TV I immediately put it on and watch okay Sneakers oh I don't even remember that tell me about it was an all star cast it had River Phoenix and I want to say Dan Aykroyd oh were they like computer hackers yes they were thieves and computer hackers look how nice and easy it is to put the Cool Whip on the top of that firmly set Jell-O it is but I really think we should have put the Cool Whip back in the fridge it's kind of a funky texture oh my gosh man Carrie you didn't do any of this right she is all things complaining this is a joy to do this with her you messed this entire recipe up Carrie all me it's all you I really think we should have gotten a bigger tub of cool whip that's what I was thinking when I read the recipe I'm like we're going to put half of that in the cream cheese and then only half on a 9 by3 yeah pan that cool whip is definitely not going to the edges of this pan no it's not Mary was out of her gourd thinking that you could split a container of Cool Whip and spread it on the top of this I do think you can get some more out of that I'm going to try but I'm trying to spread it as thin as I possibly can and who wants a thin layer of Cool Whip I don't nobody we all want a nice big blob of Cool Whip you know I hear you this don't bake anything and use prepackaged ingredients recipe has just really thrown her for a loop today oh my gosh but hey I made cookies out of that leftover dough and they are gorgeous she did I'm gonna take a picture and because we went crazy with the heath bar chocolate she put those on the cookies we didn't even talk about Heath bar at all we didn't did we yeah yeah we told them yeah duh oh my gosh I'm a mess I'm a mess so Kristen is this episode's Carrie and I have to say I wear it better that's kind of harsh that worked out all right it looks okay it's would want more cool whip but anyway yeah cool whip should be it should be thick like on the poke cake yes it should it's frosting for crying out loud I know right mmhmm we're going to pop this in the fridge no we're not we're going to put the heath bar Crunchies on the top oh wait is that what they say to do yes that's what they say to do I'm putting a lot of these crunchy bits on the top oh she's going through and fixing what I'm doing thanks Mom you're welcome do you want to take home this cool whip container for your leftovers cuz that is classic cool whip isn't it yeah it is this was the challenge of opening a refrigerator in the 70s that's right you didn't know is it cool whip are you lucky enough for it to be cool whip no leftover tuna noodle casserole I'm so glad we got the um Heath bits rather than the shaved chocolate I think that'll give it a little extra oomph yes I agree and crunch yeah because it's a very creamy it is we'll see how the crust turns out so we're going to pop that in the fridge gosh we've been kind of we'll be back about 10 million times this episode we have been see you in a minute [Music] we are back we have Robert Redford AKA Tom Hiddleston yes we do out of the fridge it's so pretty it really turned out very nice and I have to say the toffee chips really made a difference in how it looks they look so pretty I hope they taste as good as it looks yeah I agree I agree the chocolate layer is a little thinner than I expected it to be it really is the thickest layer is the crust no I'm kidding I think the thickest layer is the cream cheese the cream cheese we had it chilled in the fridge we did not put it in the freezer and the Really positive part yes is through all of this Kristen has stopped being so grumpy and complaining about everything I guess maybe I was hangry and you know what I did while we were gone oh I know I ate one of those daggone cookies I made with the leftover crust dough and it was so good you know what it tasted like I'm going to guess something pecan like pecan shortbread like pecan shortbread yeah it was like pecan shortbread wow I never would have thought that at all it was amazing all right let's see how well the spatula goes down through the crust all right oh easy peasy there was no big clonk or anything no and uh then we're gonna get to watch Kristen try and scoop out the first scoop of a pudding pie in a 9 by3 pan this is just going to be a mess this is going to be a flipping mess oh wait look at that oh look  oh my goodness the crust is solid enough oh I'm going to take a picture give it a try first and see what you think you know what no cuz I haven't tried it the crust is a funky texture of course it is go ahead and have a bite the crust is kind of it almost powders away I don't think it's gross it's not gross but the crust is 100% inconsequential now this is not saying don't make the recipe because what we made is so wrong it is so wrong so we're talking about the thing that we screwed up so epically epic that I think if you actually just use one stick of butter and the one cup of flour and the correct number of nuts so your ratios are correct I think your crust would be fine it's delicious it really is delicious I would not be ashamed to take this to my work tomorrow and I probably will yeah I think you absolutely should and the toffee bits make it oh yeah because you've got the chocolate you've got the vanilla and then to add that little extra flavor of toffee yummer so good you know I'm not wanting more cool whip to be honest in the bite no I think it would just add to the sweetness yeah so note to self don't jack up the recipe and it's delicious oh yeah I would make this again Well Carrie yes that's it for the final episode of season two well that's kind of sad I was going to say that it makes me so sad but don't worry we will be back with a full season
