The Episode in Which We Should Have Made Harvey Wallbangers

In this first episode in the new Mom’s Wooden Spoon “The Progressive Dinner That Doesn’t Go Anywhere AND We Cook Every Course” series, hosts Kristen and Carrie scour a 1977 Women’s Day magazine to set the mood and quickly determine that lard is always the best choice. Carrie breaks out the booze and is happy to put it to good use yet again.

While the corn crisps were not a hit, punch was and making it "special" made it really pack a punch! It even made the corn crisps taste better!

So let's start with the punch. To get the PG version, click here. You'll have to doctor it up all on your own (and we really think you should!)

Now that you've had some punch, go ahead and give the crisps a try!

hey Carrie you know what I was thinking about the other day was it how funnel cakes are so much more delicious than elephant ears at the fair no weirdo I was actually thinking that there are so many recipes that I'd love to make for the podcast but we just don't have time oh that's true well so why don't we just go ahead and make two at once oh that's a really sensible idea Carrie thank you that's what I'm known as Mrs sensibility oh it's true [Music] welcome to Mom's wooden spoon where the recipes are retro and so are your hosts you can say that

again welcome to Mom's wooden spoon welcome one and all Carrie and I thought it might be fun to provide you all with a full 1970s meal via the podcast yeah I'm kind of excited about this me too it's almost like a progressive dinner but not because we're not leaving the house no and you guys don't have to cook anything we'll do all the cooking and I mean so really it's nothing like a progressive dinner not a progressive dinner at all it's like a cooking show we are like the new Swedish Chef um bork bork bork the Swedish Chef it's the only one I had we are going to cook a progressive some dinner today is the appetizer and punch episode I mean cuz who doesn't have punch I know at every meal uh every meal I we do all the time absolutely little appetizer with your Punchy Punch hecks Yeah right before Din din oh yeah yeah it's a some people have taco Tuesday we have punch every day that don't make no sense oh my gosh I should have thought that one through yeah that was bad Carrie that was bad okay the appetizer comes from our 1978 Church cookbook yes and the drink recipe is from the May 23rd 1977 Mary's memo so our little appetizer are called corn crisps they are yeah and we're going to make them first and then the punch we'll make as the corn crisps are cooking in the oven it's called minted Punch Yeah so it combines pineapple juice and mint jelly and lemonade amongst other things yeah but yes I brought a Twist or two for us for the punch in classic carrie style yeah I thought what's gonna make mint punch better yeah booze obvy obvy so we have some bourbon yep and we've got some Champers champers AKA champage yes I was trying to think of what is the Krystal is that what the rappers always I'm asking you like you have any idea and I said the rappers so clearly I don't know you're so cool Carrie you are so cool so I'm pretty sure it is Krystal yes so it's our bootleg version of Krystal from none other than the Costco we got it at Costco for like $7 it's hilarious it's Costco Krystal oh la la but let's go back to our corn crisps we're going to start with that it's an interesting recipe and I think that's why we picked because it was so different yeah it is well when you think of crisps you think of potato chips I mean that goes along with your Champers potato chips and champagne well Champers is a British way of saying champagne crisps is a British way of saying potato chips I like I don't think that's a combo that people eat Kristen I would no it's very British to call it Champers yeah okay and call chips crisps right so we're making corn crisps and it is by a Mrs Robert Zeller and she went to our church and so I called Dad and asked him a little bit about her and he said she was around the same age as our grandma our dad's mom okay and dad was like oh oh I have lots of stories about this oh how cool I thought that was really cool so Mr Zeller he actually owned Zellers in town you remember the factory Zellers no but I'm laughing at your statement Mr Zeller owns Zellers I know what during World War I oh wow they made ammunition and our grandmother worked there I had no idea I didn't either and all the women that they employed while the men were off at War wore uniforms to go to work in this Munitions Factory that was Zellers I'll be dog gone I thought that was really really interesting that is yep and then later after World War II our grandpa worked there as a tool and die maker all right yeah so that's really so our grandma was a Rosie the Riveter she was I did not know that I didn't either pretty cool that is pretty neat let's make some corn crisps here now it made a heck of a lot of corn crisps it says it makes 60 to 75 there ain't no way our two families are going to eat 60 to 75 corn Crisps and if they turn out we'll be real lucky right for sure yeah so we're cutting the recipe in half yes okay so here's what it says okay it's says sift the cornmeal and salt into the mixing bowl okay and then we're going to stir nearly all the boiling water in and then add the fat and stir vigorously until the fat melts and it just says fat that's right it does not specify which and so we scoured the interwebs there are a couple recipes very similar to this yeah that call for butter that's right but we're thinking any good Midwestern Ohio Ohioer Ohioian Ohioian in yeah in the 70s would have been using some lard I think so so we got the lard we do we got the lard right here we had butter prepared because you know a lot of them used the butter but we really wanted to make sure that this was authentic not to mention I read in a couple of places that the butter tended to smoke and burn a little bit somebody said they pulled them out of the oven and a waft of smoke followed yeah and it's cooking at 425 so it's a pretty high temp so I think we're going to use the lard I think that's good really it's cornmeal salt boiling water and lard and then we sprinkle some celery seed on the top that's it oh so flavorful oh man this be very interesting yeah well so okay and if you're thinking what kind of bootleg appetizer is this right we really were kind of thinking that this would be part of a larger like charcuterie board oh is that what we were thinking well I mean that's what I was thinking what kind of craptacular progressive dinner you making here's the crisps and your drink move on you don't want them to get too filled up we're having a progressive dinner here yeah no we're gonna we're going to offer some cheese and meat maybe some fruit berries a cheese ball we're definitely going to have a cheese ball with the corn crisps very 70s yeah that would be great okay well let me crack open the celery seed here a 70s version of the charcuterie yeah yeah so it won't just be on a a board so yeah as I've mentioned we scoured the interwebs right you Kristen found something very similar I did find something very similar sorry I'm cracking open the lard while we talk here yeah I found one and I was very concerned because the very first sentence before she talked about the recipe was in a word bizarre that's what I made today something that tasted bizarre yeah I saw that one yeah and I saw a picture and they were very thick and dry looking almost powdery looking yeah they were very thick and these are supposed to be crazy thin liquidy batter that we kind of smooth onto a cookie sheet yes so I found one that was good that the lady who made them loved them thank goodness and a whole bunch of people responded oh I've tried these love them I'm gonna make it again so she had actually some handy dandy tips ooh I need all the tips we can get yes so the first thing she said is after you spoon this batter onto your cookie tray Yeah Bang it on the counter a couple times oh that'll be fun for the podcast I know some lady wrote in and she's like I wasn't sure about this recipe until I saw that I got to bang crap around and I'm in I'm in yes I'm like you know what honey I have had that kind of week too so let's smash some things please all right well I'm going to hand the cornmeal bag to Carrie it's going to be loud so let me open it wow it is loud okay so I'm going to have carrie start adding the cornmeal it's 3/4 of a cup I cut it in half hopefully the math is correct oy we're screwed I know right well I was really excited because I was looking on my bookshelf and I remembered that I have two 1977 women's day magazines oh do you now I do they had the perfect ad for this episode oh all right let's hear it was 900 ways to become the perfect host oh my gosh have a progressive meal that goes nowhere yes absolutely it was the world first two-in-one recipe card collection for mixed drinks and hors d'oeuvres what just what we're doing today you could have a recipe card collection just to start off your progressive dinner you could it would be perfect and it was published by random house so you had to join I remember that random house had a recipe card collection you could belong to I had no idea I think that's pretty cool and it came with a free card case and had a disclaimer that there was no risk or obligation to buy anything now or ever right yeah you could tend it back for $9.99 you could send it back you said tend it back but yeah or send it or tend it you could tend it back whatever just get that sun gun out of there I know but it did have another disclaimer this entirely New Concept of two- in-one would make your parties twice as successful for every dollar you spend whoa yeah but you forget to call them and say I don't want this month's recipe card and you were screwed oh it was the card came per month I'm pretty sure the card came per month so you got the box you got the box and maybe a

card I love it that's what I'm guessing right well so in the ad they had two cards displayed one for the drink and one for the shnicky Schnack the hors d'oeuvres right and the hors d'oeuvres was called cheese crispies shut your face we're making cheese crispies we can have some cheese I know right yeah and the funny thing is these corn crisps uh that we're making have a little bit of celery seed on the top that must have been super popular in the 70s because these cheese crisps had celery powder in them I'll be darned isn't that funny it's hilarious I know right and and then the description on the card was delightful it said whether you like your Manhattan sweet or dry on the Rocks straight up made with blended whiskey or bourbon 3:1 or 10 to one good Lord you'll find these crisps toothsome cheese Wafers just the right crackers to serve with America's second favorite cocktail I wonder what the first favorite cocktail was I looked it up shut up in the 70s in the 70s you have any guess what it might be I'm gonna go with a martini very very good because that was one of the top ones it was the Harvey Wallbanger oh would not have guessed that at all I have heard of those I have the Harvey Wallbanger is basically like a screwdriver oh okay but it has Galliano which is an Italian herbal liqueur I had to look that up yeah you know we have had drinks with 70s Foods before yeah and I think we ended up going with the grasshopper oh yes but I do remember looking up the Harvey Wallbanger and thinking I don't want to buy this Italian Lor and especially it's herbal that just doesn't sound delicious it would really bring the celery salt out ooh see I should have had a harvey wallbanger with these oh well we're making minted punch what evs of losers yeah I know right well I did look up what are the top two most popular cocktails today okay and they are Martini I really don't care for martini yeah not my fave and then you want to take a guess as the other one what would be the most popular drank today yeah I'll go man no no no no I meant uh old fashioned great guess Margarita oh duh yeah you can get them everywhere everywhere and they go down so smooth oh they Go Down Smooth yeah but the drink that came with this cheese crisps recipe from the 1977 Publishers Clearing House no that's not what it's called Random House random house it was called I don't know oh no it was called a Nevins what is that well was something you would like it's a bourbon drink oh I do like yes but it had grapefruit and lemon juice apricot brandy and some bitters that was very bitter yeah just a bitter bitter drink so I was like nah you know what pass I'm gonna bang a cookie sheet I you know I'm feeling bitter I think that would just be an extension of my mood no you're gonna bang a cookie sheet we should have harvey wallbangers you can have a harvey wallbanger and I'll have the feeling bitter drink okay perfect all right I'm gonna start microwaving the water to get it boiling we need it to melt the Lard perfect so do you want to stir this up sure and I will then I'm going to give a little spatula do we put the lard in the hot water no we were supposed to put it in after we mixed the water in but I saw other recipes had the lard in the bowl already sure would and then I'd pour that hot water right over it that's what I wanted to do but I I really wanted to follow Mrs Zeller's this is what she meant to do yeah that's what she meant to say that's what she meant to say so two tablespoons of the fat and it is just being a jerk I can't get it to come out of the okay you know what my fat is often a jerk too it never does what I want it to that okay now we got it in so do you want to stir or pour stir okay and then it says not quite to add all the water until you can determine consistency yeah consistency okay I'm going to start with that the fat's melting up beautifully it is I'm trying to just smoosh it Okay Melty we definitely want the fat well dispersed you don't want to bite in and have a blob of lard in your mouth gosh can you even imagine that would be horrible this is going to be way too thick this is going to look like those bizarre ones I'm going to need to add more water I'll add in about that I think it makes for a great sound for our listeners it does so what do you think of the liquidness of that I think that's pretty good I don't think we wanted any liquidy I think you're right it's like a very thin pancake batter yes okay so the directions say to form round thin Wafers on a well greased baking sheet yep so according to the recipe I read you just take a spoon you drop some of this on and then you kind of spread it with the back of the spoon no bang the oh okay well let's try that you have a spoon I have a spoon she gave me a spoon guys I het to help I know right that never happens so I guess is that about the right size like a quarter I want a good I think these are going to be that's going to be too big when you smash it it's going to knock into the one next to it oh put way far away then okay I'm going to make big ones Kristen's going to make little ones I am going to make little ones I think they'll be nicer there'll be a one bite well I'm thinking that with our cheese ball I want the opportunity to grab some cheese okay and then this is totally our two personalities I'm putting them in nice neat rows and Carrie has put these gigantic things willy-nilly just randomly where I can't intersperse any other between them oh my gosh Carrie this is ridiculous how am I going to put any more on the thing you've taken up all the space don't put any more on I guess I'll put one there this is funny maybe a small one there I don't know why you keep going I mean we're gonna have to make another sheet of them we are but not three we don't want to cook three at a time it'll be the never ending podcast all right I'm slamming it here we go oh no mine all spread out and they're touching each other they're way too big what will we do it's way too big all right we put these in for oh gosh 15 minutes by not having able to put enough is is going to really take like five hours to cook the corn crisps here this is so fun doing with you Kristen I mean what a pleasure oh my goodness I I really I appreciate your support you're welcome kitchen timer 15 minutes and starts oh 15 more minutes of putting up with you hey I have an idea let's out the booze not yet we have to wait for 15 minutes and check these to see who are Lamer yours or mine whose rule is that we have to wait who's now yeah know oh my God you know what we forgot the celery seed oh my gosh I mean there's zero flavor on these things we need to at least get some celery seed it's ruined it's going to be totes ruined okay these are little tiny seeds what the heck am I going to do with an entire container of celery seeds she had to open it up brand new and I'll have you know she struggled mightily too I did it was hard she was making all kinds of faces be glad this is not a video I know right people ask us why do you not have a video podcast we're like oh there's so many reasons so many so many mostly cuz people are mean when they see your face they are mean I don't need to know what random strangers think of my oh my gosh speaking of my face oh gosh so for work my boss wants us to have head shot on my work website yes and so to help people that didn't necessarily have a head shot she took pictures of us you take like 15 pictures and she found an AI website you put the pictures into the AI website it mashes them all together and prints out 40 pictures of you head shots yeah in various backgrounds various outfits okay so people's head shots look fantastic it makes you look younger it makes you look thinner all the things all right so y'all can't see me but I will tell you that I have since the second grade had a mole on my chin second grade who Sprouts a flipping mole on their chin in the second grade me okay so I got it it's on my left chin we'll call it a beauty mark that sounds nicer than moley moley moley if you want to break an AI headshot software yeah throw in a beauty mark what holy crap so some of them were nice some of them I had no mole that was nice some of them I had a normal looking mole there are 40 pictures here that probably encompasses seven yeah the other 33 pictures it's a free-for-all with the mole I've got what looks like a wart on my neck the picture's lovely but this huge wart on my neck I have Orion's Belt of moles on one chin there's one I'm like chin versus your other chin one side of the chin one of them I'm like what is up with that mole I zoom in it's a silver ball it pierced my face there's one that there's a mole on the right side that looks kind of like a burnt piece of rice it's real long and skinny and on the other side it put a gold hoop on my mole but only half the hoop shows up so it kind of looks like my mole birthed a maggot which we were joking is fine because it's crawling across my chin to get to the burnt rice I mean some it looks like I had a piece of pizza and I dropped and then my favorite is the background is a beach scene yeah and I've got this insanely red mole and you look in and y'all it's a little curly cue sea shell in the beach background I'm dying they were horrible so funny oh my gosh so anyway I don't think it was all that expensive to do if you have a beauty mark and you would like to see what wondrous things AI can come up with I highly recommend you give it a shot that's flipping hilarious I have not laughed so hard in a long time your Orion's Belt of moles got me so bad they were so bad wow well talking about beauty and wrapping this back up to the 1970s I do have to tell you I read an article in that 1977's women's day that I thought was going to be hilarious like your story sure and it actually was quite touching I was surprised I don't like that nah I'm not gonna tell you about it let's just move on we have 12 minutes to go on the timer let's just sit here that'll be fun that'll be fun doo doo doo you can be judgy of me I'll feel awkward and your silly little drops of corn crisps so the article was called the model life making good looks last oh well A watch the beauty marks that's right be careful and use AI right right okay they interviewed 10 former Miss Clairol hair color models oh yeah and they asked them their secrets to how to keep good looks going and these secrets maybe only a model would have sure so I thought it was going to be totally hilarious yeah and then I read what these women said and I went holy moly you go girls like we're the age that these women were most of them were retired clairol models right right and the first one said I'm happy and happy people don't age oh that is really cool you know I think even cooler is when you think of some of the things that we have pulled out of this magazine in the past yes which is the diet ad with the lady in the blue kimono looking into a mirror yes and the mirror is mocking her for her weight that's what I thought I was going to get I thought I was going to have outrageous diets or I smear my face in lard right Dexatrim I thought they were going to have things that were horrific I've only eaten celery for the last 25 years yeah I thought it was going to be hilarious like that no beautiful I'm happy and happy people don't age that's awesome yeah the other one was growing older is not such a problem when you feel good about yourself make plans and find something you enjoy doing and do it oh that's so nice we look really daggone young because we do something we love to do and that is this podcast oh look at you being all thoughtful and but it's true we have something we plan to do it it makes us happy it does we look awesome except when you're mean to me except for when you take AI photos and you know telling y'all oh my gosh but yeah we should put our faces out there because we're doing something we love and it makes us look good and we're happy no okay all right well the last one I put down is women don't like to see gray hairs or to see lines on their faces but I think we're more enriched today more female sexier and more beautiful I like it girl power that's pretty nice yeah don't really expect that from the time frame of the magazine no I can smell those cooking what do they smell like I don't know food burnt they smell burnt to me they smell like lard smell like cooking lard I don't know I don't know what lard smells oh my goodness well how about if we come back in a few minutes no we're talking the entire time and we are not drinking champagne because Kristen said no I said no ma'am we cannot have fun until later until the Crisps that she screwed up are done that's right cuz we're doing this for fun and to make us look young yeah I'm having fun [Music] all right the crisps are out of the oven yeah and oh do I have some news the news is that they're great they look perfect they do and it's really cool because some of them kind of curved up and they're like the shape of a pringle they are is and you you're thinking to yourself oh gosh Kristen kept talking about how small she made them how did that happen with the curling up it's because it didn't the small ones sucked yeah they burnt they were too thick there was nothing good about them at all we pulled them out of the this is the funniest pull them out of the oven and Kristen's like oh look at all these These are awful and I'm like I know look at the big ones they still look good she's like no these are the small ones uh compare the size here Kristen and then she finds like she's like yeah but this is a small one and this I'm like yeah they're the ones that you so grumpily added to my large sections so anyway whatevs I was wrong I felt like it was very important that you all know that you want to make them larger you do we did flip them during cooking that seemed to help they get kind of brown on the edges yeah they're brown on the edge and yellow in the middle yeah so Kristen do you want to try one first

sure mmm tastes like celery does it really I didn't think it was going to Salty celery you don't taste corn interesting we did go crazy with the celery for the second batch thinking that maybe it needed it I'm going to try mine now you know what the celery seeds a little bitter there's something bitter in this I'm not a fan of the celery seed H we made a mistake cuz she said one teaspoon for all 60 to 75 crisps yep a little crazy they are bland yeah you'd need a cheese ball that's for sure you absolutely need these would not be a delightful little cheesy crisp to eat with a glass of wine or something no but I kind of find them addictive they might be good with our minted punch we'll have to try it well of course we will well let's get started oh my gosh it's time for booze not yet Carrie bring on the champers all right so we have Mint flavored jelly we have water sugar lemonade flavored soft drink powder so AKA lemonade Kool-Aid there's no sugar in it it's just the packet and then pineapple juice and lemon lime soda but we might replace that with the champagne yes well let's read this recipe and see what we're going to do in the sauce pan we're going to mix the jelly and water heat and stir until the jelly melts and then we're supposed to mix the sugar and the drink mix and stir that into the jelly mixture oh I would not have done that oh  me either and then it says add the pineapple juice and chill so that all goes in the pot and then we have to chill the whole pot before we can make this so we're going to have to leave you guys again I think that we'll have to try out the booze options while we leave them oh you think I do okay so I hadn't gotten to the booze choices yet okay yeah I really the most important part and yeah what I'm most excited about so found a recipe and it was pretty much exactly this it had pineapple juice and mint it was everything except they called it a mint julep and included bourbon in it so I have been to the Kentucky Derby yes I have purchased from the Kentucky Derby a mint julip I will tell you it was horrible I've heard they're not very tasty oh it was awful is it just a lot of Bourbon and some mint leaves no I love bourbon it was such a waste of bourbon I don't know it was just yucky I did not like it at all but at the Kentucky Derby they come in commemorative glasses oh that's right so I brought over my two commemorative glasses from when I attended so I thought we would try everything exactly the way it's supposed to be everything includes the lemon lime soda yes so you want us to do that that's what the recipe did except We'll add some Bourbon and we'll have a mint julep someone in this review said it was better than a real mint julep and I thought how could it not be right because real mint juleps two thumbs down so then I got thinking well not really so then I another recipe and it was called mint Citrus punch and I thought oh well we're making a mint citrous punch so I looked up that recipe and they muddled mint and they had basically lemonade and then they added gin which I also would give two thumbs down but Kristen would give two thumbs up I love me some gin and champagne oh that's like a French 75 almost ooh champagne and gin baby well they got carrie's Wheels turning and I thought instead of adding in like the seven up for the bubbles let's make a batch and add the champagne for the bubbles wow so how are we going to do this should we split it half and half half with the Sprite and then half with champagne sure but I'm thinking let's just make one small batch with the seven up okay so we have two Crystal bowls here we have our big punch bowl we'll use that with the champage and then we'll do just a small little bowl with lemon lime soda lemon lime soda and then we can try the punch with champagne nothing else and since the mint Citrus punch had gin and champagne I thought what's to stop us yeah from replicating that with bourbon and champagne there we go what I'm happy to take one for the team and go get some gin what we're not putting it in anything aww

she's just going to run away yep so that's what we're going to do so we are going to twist this punch like nobody's business we are and you know what we might twist this punch so well you guys might actually want to make it we might want to drink it we actually might wow yes I will be really happily surprised if this turns out to be a great mixer when you have people over you could just have the mint jelly the lemonade packets the pineapple juice and the sugar all set aside chilled and then you could use that as your mixer for gin and champagne or for bourbon yes or for someone who doesn't want to drink that's right just that add a lemon lime soda this might be fun you guys and an ice ring and some lime sherbet yeah baby make it all foamy on the top it does say to pour it over the uh ice I'm not sure we should do that I think we should just chill it and then mix it with the booze well I'm thinking we might want to pour it over ice because we tend to get impatience oh that is also true so that way we don't have to chill it as long yeah we can just go straight to the drinking okay well this is exciting about the punch because now I have the sugar mixed into the jelly water mixture all right good job I have the two lemonade packets mixed in fantastic and if you heard the noise in the background I was busy opening up the pineapple juice excellent and now we are adding that in and now all we have to do is chill this perfect it reminds me the pineapple juice came in a can yes and it reminds me of punch back in the day when we were kids and the high C in a can that You'd add to your punch I love it high C in a can I loved that shall we go ahead and taste what this punch tastes like sure let's see how strong it is I bet it's going to be strong it's a gross color green it's like avocado refrigerator green it's strong but it's tasty I did not think I would like the taste of mint plus pineapple juice it's tasty it is really good it is this is going to be a great mixer for all kinds of drinks and we'll get that chilled up and then we'll come back and make us a great variety of drinks I'm so excited I can't wait I know me either we might actually sample the champagne and bourbon while we're gone what what do you see we might we're totes Gonna all right we'll see you guys in a bit [Music] okay we are back with chilled punch mixer we're pretty excited oh yeah it smells good I can smell the mint of course and the pineapple juice I think and the color is not horrific well it definitely is a 70s color this belongs in the 70s it does I mean this is not a color found in nature oh no it's not no okay so how are we going to taste this so okay I'm thinking we have one with some Sprite added to it yeah how much Sprite do you add we don't know I mean we could follow the recipe but we put half the punch in a small punch bowl and half the punch in a big punch bowl it's all willy-nilly yeah so we added some seven up and then I'm thinking in the other one let's add the champagne oh yeah and then we'll just try each I think that sounds great and then we have the bourbon and the gin and so then we can try the seven up one with the bourbon for our mint juleps oh yes and then we can try the champagne with the bourbon for just the made up one except Kristen yeah is like no I heard you say gin gin for me gin for me okay the mint smell is quite overwhelming it really is okay so I have poured the Sprite version of the punch in our punch glasses excellent because of course I have a punch bowl why wouldn't I well well duh yeah so shall we take a little sippy sip I think we should we got a clinky clink absolutely all right cheers to our minty green cocktail here we go it's a very mint smelling did we add enough Sprite to it we did and it's really quite good kind of herbal with that mint I do feel like it'll set you into a diabetic coma it's kind of sweet do you think we should have added more Sprite I don't know but it's a good thing these punch glasses are small no kidding right but should we see how it pairs with the crisp and cheese let's do it we decided that the crisp with lots of celery was a horrible idea it was not that good it was very bitter very very bad so we rubbed off a whole lot of celery and we got some cheese yeah you want the bigger piece of cheese sure okay I'll take the skinnier piece of cheese okay so we're going to try a crisp with cheese combined with some mint punch I mean not all in the mouth at the same time that' be a mess yeah I'm going to let Carrie try that first okay while Carrie does that let's set the mood for the music one of my favorite songs from 1977 I think Carrie will recognize it You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boon I was going to say Debbie Gibson but much more appropriate Debbie Boone my dad knew how to play that on the piano I know my dad too that was really cool that's so wild yeah you know those little crisps are pretty tasty with the cheese that would not be bad for a little appetizer it's nice with the punch it kind of cuts down the sweet of the punch just a little bit they kind of go nicely together they do kind of go nicely together that was a happy accident yeah we didn't mean to do that I know okay so do we drink up the last of this diabetes in a cup or we dump this and then try the champagne one yeah let's dump it and try the champagne one ready all right so Kristen's the dumper we might need a little more ice get us a little more ice I mean let's be honest we didn't chill this long enough because we're us so we thought you know we we're just gonna to put ice right in the cup and call that good enough and absolutely so far it's been working like a dream it worked great and that's what we're going with okay so now we're going to go with the just champagne instead of seven up okay here we go oh gosh so many options people so exciting and maybe we'll do way less of a full glass Kristen I agree oh it's all bubbly and fun I'm not waiting for you I'm drinking right now it's so pretty I love it and while she takes a little sip oh this is so good I was going to sing you another song but she's very excited let's take a sippy it is so less sweet cuz we got a dry champagne oh is that not Delightful that is delicious I would drink all of that it doesn't even compare not at all yes the punch was okay mmhmm this is delicious and you don't taste the champagne this is dangerous crap right here Carrie I'm saying that as Carrie downs the entire punch glass in one sip I'm talking I'm just looking at the bottom of the cup as she goes gulp it's tasty y'all oh it is okay so now bourbon all right here we go yes all right clinky clinky all right Kristen I'll let you go first okay have you ever had a mint julep I have not but this is so good this is even 10 million times better than just the champagne this is far better than any mint julep I have ever had is it really oh my gosh I'll tell you what if this is what a me julep tasted like I would drink it all the time all the time okay I have just added gin to the champagne punch okay oh my goodness you barely taste the Gin it's delicious but I have to be honest with you I'm going back for the bourbon drink yeah so you know when we first made this we were thinking about who can we give this punch to yeah and I think I figured it out you me now you can have the seven up one no thanks uh because it was total loser yeah it was all right yeah you got to add the booze oh my gosh with that champagne oh my goodness so good and with the corn crisps and cheese who would have thought I me we pulled just two rando recipes we did they really are quite delightful together wow what a great starter to a delicious meal I mean and geerab you an Uber geerab Carrie needs one right now grab you an Uber because we're heading over to my house for the next you really knocked it out of the park Kristen let's do a cheers one more cheers here's to Mint punch and to corn crisps that
