Pickled Meatloaf Transcript
hey Carrie what do you think of Meatloaf oh he is an amazing singer Carrie this is a cooking show I'm talking about meatloaf the food oh I love it too oh so do I I used to ask for it as my birthday meal when I was little does this recipe have a topping like ketchup or barbecue sauce nope this one has a filling is it cheese no I'm just kidding I can't wait to see what it is cheese
[Music] welcome to Mom's wooden spoon get your apron on and your fanny flicker ready as we cook up some Nostalgia ooh yummy laughs hey everybody this is Kristen and this is Carrie today we are going to be making pickled meatloaf yum Carrie picked this recipe out and it comes from the 1972 Better Homes and Gardens menu cookbook slash practical guide for good nutrition mmm thank you to our local flea market oh yeah yeah for that good find this was a great find so this is actually a twofer you know why it not only provides the original pickled meatloaf recipe and a menu oh yeah the menu I can see it it it's oh it's special oh yeah yeah it has your favorite so you'd have your pickled meatloaf for dinner right and then you would have Carrie's favorite buttered peas so is there a recipe in there for buttered peas because wouldn't that just be peas and butter right no recipe for the buttered peas all right good good the next part no recipe for this it's going to be difficult sliced tomatoes awesome along with those things that you don't have a recipe for right there is also potato salad right which you would think would be pretty normal yeah I'm looking at the recipe Carrie it calls for frozen french fried potatoes huh so they use frozen french fries to make this potato salad but it gets worse you boil them huh I know I'm trying to conceptualize that um it says carefully drop frozen potatoes into water and then remove from heat immediately cover and let stand four to five minutes okay so instead of roasting you're just gonna quick do a blanchy boil just to heat them up I don't know but I thought that frozen french fries were kind of pre-cooked I thought they were already fried exactly so I can't imagine maybe you boil them to pull some of the oil off I don't know I don't either boy if you guys are interested in us trying that recipe season two right you must let us know that would be an interesting one because I'm really interested in it so guys please go to our website leave us a message if you are interested in us making potato salad with boiled frozen french fries so this menu even continues telling you that you need to have hot rolls sure butter yeah you didn't know that right um and then it suggests the beverages you should drink coffee and milk all right perfect and then for dessert sundaes oh I know we did not in the 70s have desert at every meal we sure did not not one bit okay so that's the menu for this original pickled meatloaf right and you said there were two there are so then you go to the back of the cookbook and under the meat encores section oh wait a minute so they have a built-in section for leftovers yes it's called leftovers and then you go to the meat encores section I love it and I think in my house from now on yeah I am going to refer to leftovers as encores that's so cool that sounds way better especially for like a theater family we do love a good encore I know right so in the back it is listed under sandwich supper oh it does say that you should have this as an open face sandwich okay and since cooked meat is not particularly colorful or attractive brown gravy oh no they suggest that you make something appealing to the eye and complementary in flavor and their suggestion for that is gazpacho relish really so we have pickled meatloaf and we're going to put gazpacho relish exactly maybe fascinating I know what it is you take all those sliced tomatoes off the plates of all your family members that didn't eat them chop them up and make gazpacho relish and voila they have you put these slices of this cold pickled meatloaf on rye bread and then it says pickled meatloaf on rye bread takes on Spanish airs when served with gazpacho relish what rye bread screams Spain what the heck so I love love love this cookbook we'll put a picture of it on the website for you guys to see it really is kind of a cool cookbook so if you're a housewife of the 70s and you're having to put meal after meal after meal together and you're like okay I'm gonna make meatloaf wow what do I do with it yeah this cookbook has the meals all planned out for you boy this takes all the work out of it well yeah there's a million memes out there that refer to who knew that I was going to have to decide what I wanted to eat for every meal for the rest of my life that's right because it's such a pain in the butt yeah and to have to decide a week ahead so you can go grocery shopping right and have it at home I don't know how I'm going to feel next Tuesday no but apparently we're having gazpacho relish because uh yummer okay so this pickled meatloaf has let's see two pounds pickles why yes how did you know but not two pounds of pickles no no no that's a lot two pounds of ground beef
it has oddly enough chili sauce interesting interesting now have you ever made those meatballs oh yeah where you mix chili sauce with grape jelly yes I wonder that's a 70s recipe I don't know but it's easy and delicious it is you just put it in the crockety pockety and there you go and off it goes yeah now is the chili sauce in the meatloaf or on the top like the ketchup would be no it is in the meatloaf okay okay yes that sounds better yeah I think it'll be good and then it has bread crumbs black pepper it has horseradish yum I love that it has mushrooms okay but you know it calls for chopped mushrooms I could not find chopped mushrooms we'll have to choppety these ourselves but I think if I chop them finely enough you won't get a big mouth full of them well that's really all I care about yeah I just don't like a big large chunk right but um we will have large chunks of the dill pickles because they call for taking a whole pickle and quartering it okay so just a quarter big old dill pickle oh so we're gonna like layer the pickles in oh yes when I look at the sliced meatloaf back in the sandwich section yeah you can see a cross section you can see the side of each pickle spear interesting that is so not what I expected I was thinking like relish mixed into the recipe uh uh but I did look up funky meatloaf recipes of the 70s oh and I did see pictures of the ones with this pickles in the middle and I thought oh those poor sorry saps we're gonna have relish in ours no we're not I do know that and the directions are so vague about how to put them in there that it's going to be interesting it says to pat half the mixture into the pan and then top with pickles okay
it's kind of a life the Great British Bake Off when they do the technical challenge yeah there's not quite enough information that's right but they want it to look a certain way and they're like top with Pickles Which Way long way we don't want to be the losers who cut it into slices and then put it in there and Paul Hollywood goes some fool sliced them in slices right well I would think you'd have to put them long way in the pan so that when you slice it you're getting a slice of a spear whereas if you lay the spear side to side in the pan you're getting an entire spear in the middle and that would be too much
and I noticed when I looked at the picture there were like the ends of like four little pickles okay um so that would be yeah the long ways interesting okay and this one has bread crumbs so do you remember as a kid that mom had in my mind it was the best meatloaf recipe ever I'm a fan of Meatloaf I realize it's a very polarizing food people seem to love it or hate it I absolutely fall in love it category and Mom had a delicious recipe and it had bread chunks in it yes she would just do soft white bread yes yes that was delicious well I what I recall was her saying that they didn't sell bread crumbs at the grocery store you had to have stale bread you had to make your own bread crumbs and she's like bread crumb schmed crumbs right I don't have time for that mess I just want to make a stupid meatloaf so when she found one that you could just chunk up bread she's like oh I got time for that that rip it out of the package nice yes and then I can take the bread bags and when my daughters go outside to play in the snow I can stick them on their arms do you remember that I remember getting a couple pairs of socks on before going out in the snow and then a bunny bread bag up on our socks yes and then you put your feet in the boots yes I remember it on the arms I don't remember that she had dad's old socks and she cut a thumb hole so you'd put Dad's old sock on so it would come up to your elbow as a kid and then the bread bag and then you'd put the coat on and then the mittens and the reason she did this is if you're from the north and you played out in the snow right one of the worst things ever was your poor little wrist would get just red and chapped and cold and so our wrist never did because they never got exposed to the wet snow and they stayed warm because of the sock what a good mom I know that was clever that was pretty smart oh and do you remember the other thing mom would do when we came in cold so this has kinda scarred me as an adult
which I mean it was such an amazing loving thing that I I don't regret it at all but as an adult I'm weird because this is a loving calming kind of feels like a big hug yes okay so so we would come in and she'd have hot chocolate for us or something delicious and she'd say come here take your socks off put your cold toes on my tummy to warm them up and it would warm them up slow enough that they never got that hot itchy yes that was oh it was the worst feeling in the world and bless her heart she would stand there with four insanely cold feet sitting on her belly okay so now I love to to feel loved I want to put my cold feet on someone's belly well how weird is that it's a weird thing so I was leaving the football game earlier this year with friends of ours and it was the mom and the younger daughter and we're walking to our cars and we were talking about how cold we were and I'm like I know I'm like you just need to put your feet on someone's belly and now I realize how weird that sounds to a stranger and so let me give us a little background because who said that when I'm cold it's cold outside I'm wearing you know shoes with no socks and I'm going to the coffee shop sometimes I'll just tap someone on the shoulder and say hey could I put my toes on your tummy how often do they say Yes um sometimes they do but they're creepy that leery smile they give you sure I like feet gosh that's so creepy and back to the meat loaf
all right so let's see combine the first eight ingredients so we're gonna combine two beaten eggs oh I am so old I can't read the recipe yeah so usually we have Mary's memos that we have photocopied and blown up to the recipe that we're using well now we're actually using a real cookbook and so we're both trying to read this out of the cookbook and it's not blown up no I can't it's hard to see well of course because they didn't just put the Pickled meatloaf recipe on there they have the potato salad with the boiled french fries on there I'm really kind of interested in that do you cut the french fries no I'm looking at the picture they actually have a picture of the finished potato salad and there are full french fries in there and radish and radishes butt load of radishes whoa no I don't need that oh I want to make it you lost me at radish all right so I already put the raw meat in the bowl and Carrie is going to beat the egg she's going to make a lot of noise there and then beat the eggs I tossed the eggshell past Kristen she feared for her life I did Carrie's a way way better thrower than I am though all right so we are going to put in it's a low bar to pass
okay I'm gonna put in the chili sauce I gave you a towel to wipe your fingers there because I got the eggs on it all right so it's just a third cup of chili sauce and a third cup of the bread crumbs okay and I'm gonna beat the egg so you're mean okay I'm gonna put in the chili sauce I'll give you a towel to wipe your fingies off I know cause I've got the egg on it alright so it's just a third cup of the chili sauce and a third cup of the bread crumbs okay I'm gonna beat the eggs so shhh
all right that sound makes me have to go to the bathroom that's just weird all right eggs are a beaten okay and the chili sauce is in perfect okay you want to dump the eggs in here I think it just all gets tossed in our big 1970s Pyrex bowl with the wheat chaff on it that sounds lovely I shall set about cutting mushrooms I don't think you should do the mushrooms you are not the finest chopper in the land you make things very big yes but I don't like mushrooms oh okay so I'm gonna chop those suckers within and inch of their life remember the celery from our corned beef mold that was quite large and remember how happy we all were to have the crunch of the large celery I don't remember that I don't remember that part yeah convenient I also remember in the microwave potato soup the potatoes were too big I was trying to make them the same size as the hot dogs so that you didn't have like teeny tiny potatoes and giant hot dogs that seemed very unappealing it just seems very excuse-laden to me so it just said buy a can of chopped mushrooms and I looked and looked and looked I couldn't find chopped mushrooms of course I could find the pieces and stems so I just bought pieces and stems that sounds lovely sounds good and we're going to need that cutting board again and that knife to cut the pickles into quarters all right yes ma'am all right so let's get some of this ooh the horseradish and I think it's a whole tablespoon nom nom nom nom delicioso all right Kristen so in honor of this meal yes uh do you know who Michael Lee Aday is I have heard that name but I cannot think of who it would be hmm I'm bringing him up in honor of this meal does that help at all Meatloaf yes do you have a favorite Meatloaf song oh of course Paradise by the Dashboard Light oh my gosh I was in college when I heard that song for the first time really yes oh man you can rock to that you put that on in the car the whole world dissolves away yes you just rock out and that's not his only good song no no he has tons others like a bat out of hell oh yeah I did not look up why he went with a moniker meatloaf yeah but I wonder what happens in your life that makes you think you know what I think people should know me as meatloaf that's right we're gonna look it up and when we come back we'll tell you guys okay why he decided to go with I mean the meatloaf wouldn't you be I'd be concerned people would then want to shorten it and just call me like Mr Loaf Mr Loaf hey meat come on over here there's no way that that did not happen I know right right that's so cool oh well you know I was looking up in 1972 and I was thinking well gosh Carrie wasn't born yet I was not I was watching the family trip to Disney through my mom's belly button or so I tried to convince the family I was so jealous as a little kid she was that I had never been to Disney and they all had been that I refused to accept that I had not been to Disney I was just convinced that I had seen it all through mom's belly button and FYI it's a small world favorite pre-birth Carries ride well you know that's so funny because I looked up what rides were actually at Disneyland in 72 because it had only been open a year really yeah it opened in October of 1971. okay so the major rides would have been the Hall of Presidents that's not really a ride no no yeah one that would have scared you in utero The Haunted Mansion oh yeah that's a good one the Jungle Cruise was there okay as you said it's a small world one that's no longer there Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea oh interesting I wonder what that was like yeah and then the one that scared the living daylights out of me that I had nightmares for years about interesting the Country Bear Jamboree what they're cute and friendly and Berenstain Beary looking
they scared the daylights out of me there was a bear head hanging on the wall and when it became animated and started talking yes oh my gosh I just lost my mind as a two-year-old I was scared to death you're a weird kid Kristen oh man I had nightmares about that man also when we went to visit our family in Texas our cousin had curtains that had Clarabelle the cow and I got to sleep in his bedroom when we were there and they gave me nightmares that Clarabelle was scary I don't know why weird little kid that's so funny speaking of Disney yeah something else that happened in 1972 regarding Walt Disney any guesses is that when he decided he wanted to freeze his head which apparently is all a lie what yes so 1972 you are totally correct how did you guess that that's freakish well I think that would be the only thing that would be astounding that I would think about Disney maybe he got married or had a kid but you went with the freezing of the head I'm impressed yeah yeah cause I'm smart yeah afraid of your own shadow obviously
[Laughter] no no not the country bear jamboree friendly bears ahhh get clarabelle away from me
okay anyway so yes in 1972 the um president of the California cryogenics Society yeah started that rumor to get people to want to do that because if Walt Disney wanted to you should want to too all right so the meatloaf peatloaf double beetloaf is coming together oh my gosh I have to tell you the most amazing story I found from our hometown in 1972 interesting yes the Defiance Werewolf what I had never heard of that did you Werewolf of Defiance ahooo no Werewolf of Defiance so this is so freaky okay so I found somebody who had written a blog post about it and I also found an original article from the Toledo Blade about oh and that was the big paper that was serious stuff so apparently some employees of a local freight train company were working the graveyard shift okay when here's the quote I saw these two hairy feet then I looked up and he was standing there with a big stick over his shoulder when I started to say something he took off into the woods so I would expect the stick to be in its mouth apparently not it keeps going on and on where they describe him as having huge hairy feet fangs and then it ran side to side like a caveman in the movies other descriptions of him say that he had a two by four over his shoulder what what does a werewolf need with the two by four he's got fangs and claws he's building a hut out in the woods he's building a hut apparently he's stealing two by fours werewolves gotta live too Kristen that is right so what was so funny to me is what the police chief was quoted as saying in the article yeah I mean what kind of good quote do you have from that I know well first of all they were taking this seriously right right sure yeah so his first quote is that the first reports described the werewolf as ranging from seven to nine feet but that was a little exaggerated you think it's just a hairy five foot five guy right and so then reminder it was too railway employees and a grocer who saw this guy and then his final quote of the entire article was if his motive is robbery then he's not picking the right type of people that have a lot of money rude you just called those people poor what the heck he needs to needs to find himself a good bank president exactly yes so I was telling our dad about this and he was just getting such a big kick out of it because he never heard of it that's funny yes so he sent out an email to all of his buddies who would have no he didn't yes who would have been in town in 72 I love that right so his friend and our former Middle School principal Mr Mack said he didn't remember that at all but he does think he may have seen him getting a drink down at Kissners hairy five foot five guys I'm telling ya that's right what a story oh but it gets better there's more oh yeah so not of the werewolf but Dad's escapades into enjoy enjoying this so much right so then he contacts his friend Father John Stites okay yeah right he went to high school with him he did yes and apparently his brother was on the police force in Defiance in 72 shut your face I know right his his brother's with us he is not so what he did is he contacted his brother's friends and colleagues no way so I mean he's really got a big not a big chunk I mean 10 people in the town really kind of excited looking into this you know what you know that's worth it in and of itself to have found this crazy story it really was if you want to hear more about it you can listen to a podcast about it oh yes it's called Ohio Folklore Tales Untold okay and they have an episode called Defiance Werewolf shut up yep I just went to Spotify looked up Ohio Folklore Defiance Werewolf and found it and the woman who does the podcast has a lovely voice it was just so interesting and she gave a lot more backstory to it of course right yeah with some spooky music and stuff so nice if you guys are interested in that go check out Ohio folklore Tales Untold I like it I know right okay so I have half the meatloaf in the pan and Carrie is layering in these quarter strips of full dill gherkins yes oh it looks nice I'm a little worried because I think I put too much meat mixture at the bottom and not enough on the top I didn't want to say anything but it's hard to judge I should have cut it with my hand kind of but you want me to do it again oh my gosh no okay oh my gosh so we're gonna put this in a 350 degree oven and cook it for the next 20 hours I think oh no only an hour and a quarter okay okay and then when it comes out are we gonna ice it with mashed potatoes and make a fancy frosted meatloaf no there is no ketchup that goes on the top no barbecue sauce you don't put the chili sauce on the top it is just plain old Jane old and all does it have dairy creamer in it what yeah cause I kid you not I told you I looked up meatloaf recipes somebody wrote that their most favorite meatloaf recipe ever yeah was one that their mom used to make when they were kids and it's called the Preem surprise meatloaf as a surprise was it was created by the makers of Pream coffee creamer which they don't make anymore wild yeah it had coffee creamer but it was dry powdered yeah yeah okay coffee creamer in the meatloaf that's so weird so according to this total random stranger the Preem surprise meatloaf also delicious oh my gosh well I guess we could try that next you know there's a trend going around with the young peoples right now where they say that getting a Dr Pepper at a fast food place okay and asking for two creamers to go into it and then you get home and you pour the creamers in and you stir it around with the straw that that is absolute deliciousness um so basically they've all turned into Laverne from Laverne and Shirley that's right Pepsi and milk that's also a weird thing going around with the young ones nowadays and by young one she means the 40 and under crowd that's right
and every time they talk about it I see it on social media I'm like yeah guys you stole that from Laverne thank you just goes back to show the 70s are da bomb da bomb thank you all right and on that note let's get this sucker in the oven and we'll see you guys in an hour and a quarter
[Music] okay the meatloaf is out of the oven it smells delicious in here oh it really does I am excited I am too I know that's weird a it's meatloaf with a lot of people hate yeah and B there's flipping pickles in it and you did not skimp on the pickles I mean it's called pickled Meatloaf I feel like when you're going for it all in baby that's right how many pickles did you end up slicing up I think three and some of them when I quartered them you know you don't cut it exactly down the middle yeah and the quarter was a little too big so I did halve the quarter on a couple yeah some others not well every single pickle that you sliced we put in there you know I'm not gonna let my hard work go to waste I know every last mushroom went in there if I cut it I'm putting it in there you know the little bits of mushroom on the top of it looked extra dark so I'm not sure what that was but interesting crunchy mushroom oh I hope not me too so as we were waiting for this to bake I thought of something oh we have a fun guest today that we totally forgot to mention yes we do I'm excited she's been friends of the family since she was I'm gonna say 17 years old she's now not 17 she's kind of like an aunt in addition to you to our daughter and just a good family friend yes and so she kindly volunteered to try pickled meatloaf we're really excited to have her here yeah I'm looking forward to it so anyway forgot to mention that yeah so she'll be here in a bit we're letting the meatloaf cool down a little bit nobody wants flesh peeling off the top of their mouth from some roasting hot pickles no they don't and that's my other worry is that the pickles are going to be squishy oh well they're not going to be crunching them no doubt do you think they're going to be juicy like are you gonna take a bite and you're gonna get a puff zap all the hot pickle juice lava liquid lava pickle juice or maybe the pickle juice is soaked out into the bottom part of the so maybe it was good that the bottom quote half of the meatloaf is more than half that's right this is going to be nice and pickly salty goodness briny delicious I don't know but I'm excited either yes I can't wait I really am excited about this one I am too and while the meatloaf was cooking I looked up about Meatloaf the singer oh fantastic yes okay and why did Michael Lee decide to go with a meatloaf well there are a lot of different stories as to why it just was reiterated through his life that he should be called meatloaf so I'm going to read to you guys what I found it said that when he was born his dad noticed that he was bright red and stayed bright red for days okay so the dad said he looked like nine pounds of ground Chuck and he nine pounds he was not a little baby he was a big boy and he asked the nurses to put the word meat on the crib I thought they would have put Chuck oh that would have been funny oh my gosh and then when he was in like middle school he started to get a little chubbier okay and in his seventh grade year his classmates began to call him meatloaf because they fat shamed him they were so mean that was mean yeah because he was five foot two and 240 pounds in seventh grade do you think he was hairy do you think he was the Defiance Werewolf Werewolf of Defiance well he was hairy he had long hair at least that's true I wonder if he likes two by fours oh I bet and then there is another thing online that said it's meatloaf nickname is attributed to an incident where he's playing football and he stepped on his football coach's foot and the coach yelled get off my foot you hunk of meatloaf what a weird thing to scream at some kid that would be weird the dude was clearly meant to be meatloaf obviously they say later that he went by the initials ml hey ml Michael Lee right also Meatloaf so cool I still feel like we just all should have been calling him Chuck that's weird well I think it's as this cools we're gonna slice it up yep plate it beautifully oh yes uh get Dani on in here so she can taste it yeah and I think we have one extra special surprise for her later in the episode I love surprises oh yeah oh I can't wait it's gonna be fun pickles no cheese don't you wish I guess you'll have to wait and see fine [Music]
we would like to welcome our friend Dani to the show Welcome Dani welcome thanks guys thanks for letting me be here we're happy to have you here so Dani is a long time family friend and just one of the coolest people I know she's a full-time employee of a building company which hopefully I got kind of correct yeah that's right okay and she is the proud owner of a local fine dining establishment Creation Social House nearby us in Alpharetta Georgia it's awesome it really is thanks guys so we're going to talk about that in a minute but first of all I have a question for you did you eat meatloaf growing up as a kid I did my mom would make it and um the word loaf always freaked me out so I never really liked it she always put ketchup on top did she bake it with the ketchup she baked it yeah yeah I like that yeah and so I didn't really like it as a kid but I grew up and did one of those home delivery meal kit thing yeah and they had those like individual portioned sized ones we have barbecue sauce on it and that was a game changer I make that every now and again for my family now for my fiance and my stepson and my stepson loves it and it's you know individual little loafs baby loafs so yummy yeah perfect yeah that's nice that's awesome so one of my favorite aspects of Creation is the delicious foods and creative plating and is meatloaf on the menu it's not but it might be after I try this no pressure
oh man but I bet it would look gorgeous you guys have a way of plating that makes it seem like we are eating at a palace I mean it is just so cool oh thanks yeah it is really a fine dining establishment oh thank you so much I mean I think meatloaf split with pickle spears looks good on any plate gorgeous yeah easy to do it could go on a paper plate and it would be fine exactly that's true so Creation also offers such unique delicious and an evolving drink menu with like just inspired options and my favorite is your pecan Manhattan yeah that's a good one it's smoky oh it's amazing do you think you might have a season of 1970s inspired cocktails we might well something close to it I want to do our next theme so right now we're doing Maleficent so we're decorated for an enchanted forest but we talked about for summer doing Summer of Love so it would be the 60s but yeah oh so fun flowers everywhere tie-dye pieces wow I like it that's really cool and that's another thing about your restaurant is the decor is gorgeous thank you we have a lot of fun with it yeah they change it out it's thematic it's great anybody who loves a good theme you gotta check it out oh who doesn't love a good theme oh yes all right ladies I think maybe it's time that we try this pickled meatloaf and see if there's a chance that you might actually serve it yeah at your restaurant so Carrie and I are going to share one and you get a whole slice all to yourself good that's how I like it all right Kristen you want to chat and Dani and I'll go yeah you guys go take a bite did you know that the most popular toy in 1972 was the big wheel we had big wheels as kids and they came with these little clickers and we didn't realize that until we were older that our dad took the clickers off because that sound drove him nuts as we were driving up and down the driveway it was very true I think it's a winner it's pretty good I love the pickle yeah no way yeah I mean I chocked the pickles in there I mean they are lined up like soldiers and she packed them in so much that when we took it out of the loaf pan the pickles kind of fell out the side they did but I'm not unhappy about that I think the pickle's kind of good so it also has horseradish and some nice chili sauce in it it's not a dull it's not a dull meatloaf you're not eating this going I'm gonna have to add something to zhuzh It Up it's it's zhuzhed yeah the flavor is really good mainly meatloafs are kind of bland and boring unless you put that yummy glaze of ketchup or barbecue sauce on the top I think the pickle adds some saltiness to it it does and we're rocking the heel so we got the the least delicious part Kristen that's true can you tell that there are chopped up mushrooms no you see them now yeah Carrie did such a good job chopping those I finely diced them oh good job Carrie because I hate mushrooms good hustle thank you yeah thank you very much yeah well good job I like the horseradish in there me too who's that hello hi hello I have brought you a gift from the 70s oh what is it this is our 70s drink the Grasshopper oh well we need to taste test this and the color is amazing the color is pretty groovy it is you guys want to take a sip yeah are you scared no that is a green not found in nature cheers ladies cheers here's to Dani thank you so much for coming here thanks for having me what do you think here's to minty deliciousness yeah I have never had a grasshopper before and I would not be opposed to having more Carrie does this taste like our Shamrock Shakes it does it tastes like an adult shamrock shake I'm in love it's good are you are you a shamrock shake fan I don't know what that is woah let's enlighten Dani
I feel there's a moment of education here McDonald's at St Patrick's Day offers the shamrock shake when we were kids it was the purple guy what was his name Grimace Grimace who would advertise the shamrock shake and it is a mint milkshake yeah and it's quite delicious unless you hate mint which you know maybe we could have asked before you got here I love mint okay well we were trying to pick out what cocktail might be 70s and I asked my mom and she goes well I used to drink a grasshopper I wasn't much of a drinker but it was delicious after a meal I would have to agree yeah I mean I'm on her side it's kind of like a drinkable Andes mint that's right how can you go wrong there and I found some recipes that had ice cream in it vanilla ice cream that would be really well that would make it like a shamrock shake that would be even better do you could do mint chocolate chip too oh it's kind of what it tastes like to me yeah you could fancy it up with like a drizzle of chocolate syrup in there yep totally not 70s but delicious yeah oh that would be so good gosh now I don't know which I like more the meatloaf or the grasshopper that's right because the grasshopper has creme de menthe and then it also has white creme de cocoa yeah so it is that chocolate mint flavor it is oh yeah we haven't done a cocktail maybe next season we should do a few more always a possibility maybe we could have Dani over and do we could be your taste testers my test subjects I like it well thanks again Dani for being here thank you ladies good hanging out that's it for this episode thanks so much for joining us as this season begins to draw to a close please be sure to join us on Facebook Instagram and or Twitter because during our summer hiatus we're going to be asking you for your opinion on recipes and all kinds of other things for season two we want to hear what you have to say
